THE SPAN OF LIFE.
SIR A. KEITH’S VIEWS. A SHORT-SERVICE SYSTEM. CENTENARIANS NOT DESIRABLE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received November 18, 9.10 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 17. Sir Arthur Keith, lecturing before Ihe Royal Society of Medicine, said most people needed spectacles at the age of 40. Some eminent scientists placed the life of man at 100 years, but personally he believed nature worked on the basis that the mean life tenure of 45 should be the limit, .and had decided to run human beings on a short-service system. It was a moot point whether it, would be advantageous for civilisation that ait should be centenarians.
