MAD MALAY AMOK
ARMED WITH A KNIFE. THIRTEEN PERSONS STABBED. NINE SUCCUMB TO WOUNDS. Word was recently received that Captain Murdoch McDonald, a New Zealander, had been murdered at Singapore. Additional details show that a Malay ran amok with a large knife, and stabbed 13 > persons on the steamer Klang, nine of whom r including Captain MoDonald, suo* cumbed to their injuries, (United Press Association.) PERTH, Nov. 18. The master of the steamer Gogra from Singapore, Jias brought details of the murder of Captain McDonald, a New Zealander, master of the steamer Klang, and eight members of his coloured crow by a Malay in Singapore Harbour. The master states that soon after the Klang left her berth a Malay passenger ran amok with a large knife, stabbing right and left. A scene of panic followed, 200 pas* sengers rushing to escape the madman. The ship was stopped, but by that time 13 people had been stabbed. Captain McDonald left the bridge to investigate, and was stabbed in. tlie abdomen. The police were signalled for, and a party armed with rifles and bayonets boarded the vessel, and the madman was shot dead. Captain McDonald and eight others succumbed to their wounds. A tragic feature was the finding of an unloaded revolver and amiuunitioi? in Captain McDonald’s pocket.
