The Chicago Tribune's correspondent at Dayton, Tennessee, states that the school teacher, John Thomas Scopes, who is being tried on a charge of teaching the Darwinian theory of evolution, is as good as convicted unless a miracle happens. The accused's leading antagonist, Mr. \Y. J. Bryan, in his shirt sleeves; preached at' a service on Sunday. He said: "I fear the aristocracy of wealth; 1 respect the aristocracy of learning; but I revere the democracy of Cod." The oration was punctuated by a chorus of "Aniens'' from the congregation. Judge Roulsfon, who is trying Scopes, was sitting in a front pew.
