TRIP TO WAIKATO HEADS.

AN ENJOYABLE, EXCURSION. A large party from Hamilton and* Cambridge lefa by the 6.8. Manuwai on Saturday for Port Waikato. The boat called at way ports on the journey down, and put in at Mercer for the night, where many of the passengers slept aboard, while others found accommodation at the local hotel and boardinghouses. The journey was resumed about 7 o'clock yesterdav morning, large numbers joining up at Mercer, Tuakau, and Pukckohe. After 80 miles of gloriius river scenery, the Heads were reached at 10.30, and the 200 passengers soon distributed themselves about tho beaches. Many journeyed to the waterfalls, while others who preferred surf-bath-ing made their way over the dunes to the ocean side, where the surf 'soon pounded them into a healthy glow. Others entered the water from the harbour beaches or stretched out on tho dunes or beneath the trees, and allowed the sun to provide its tonic. There are distinct signs of progress at Port Waikato, which is becoming popular as a pleasure resort, and a large number of campers arc down there at the present time. The fishing is good, the scenery down magnificent (it is doubtful if there is anything finer in the Dominion), and there is splendid surf bathing. Owing to a slight delay on the way back, the boat failed to connect with the Main Trunk express at Mercer, by three minutes only, the train pulling out of the station as the Manuwai drew in at the wharf. The master of the vessel kept faith with the passengers for higher up the river, however, and brought the boat right on to Hamilton, reaching here at 7 o'clock this morning. All accounted the trip a most enjoyable one, and the night spent on board was quite comfortable.
