AN UNHEEDED WARNING. ESCORT NOT APPLIED FOR. (United Press Association.) Received October 9, 12.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, October 9. The Chief Commissioner of Police, commenting on the attack on the bank manager, said six months ago all banks in the city and suburbs were warned against the danger of not providing escorts for officials in charge of big sums of money. The warning was effective for a while, but the bank authorities were apparently lulled into a sense of false security as the request for /police escorts had slackened off 'considerably although he had offered to provide police at a reasonable cost.
