The authorities of Eddysvillc Prison, Kentucky, conferred with the leaders of the militia to formulate a plan for dislodging the three desperadoes who were entrenched dn the prison dining hall, after an unsuccessful attempt to escape. The authorities were Inclined more and more to use dynamite against the desperadoes. Eventually the military arranged a hand grenade barrage, and afterwards forced ammonia into the mess hall. Then the soldiers battered In the door. • The gas had done its work. The three desperadoes lay dead on the lloor. One had obviously been dead for 2<i hours, while the other two had wounds in the heart, suggesting that they had oommitted suicide to escape death from tho ammonia.
