HOSPITAL BUTTER SUPPLY.
(To the Editor). Sir, —"Detective Jim,” who still prefers' to hide under the nom-de-plumc akin to the “secret service,” seems to have misconstrued Mr A, E. Webb’s statement. 4 Officers of the "secret service” are generally more cautious, and if “Detective Jim” had served an extended term in “Scotland Yard" he would have perceived that Mr Webb’s- accusation was not levelled at members of the Hospital Board, but was rather suggestive that "Ananias" would have been a more appropriate nom-dc-plume to connect with the effusions which would have the publio believe my company had given a'verbal undertaking to supply the hospital with butter id per lb less than the cooperative company, no matter -what its price might be. If “Detective Jim’s” statement that some members of the Board claimed such a verbal undertaking was given by my company is correct, then the member of members who made such statement should be prepared to affirm it, and give the name of the person who was responsible. If such affirmation is not given,, the public will know that the accusation is the result of another “misconstrued” idea of “Detective Jim’s.” As manager and responsible officer of the Waikato Valley Dairy Company, I emphatically deny that there was any communication whatever between my company and the Hospital Board, or any of its members, verbal, or otherwise, other than the tender received by the secretary of the Board on May 31, which appears vrebatim in Mr Webb’s letter of September 22 to you, and any statement made to the contrary, whether by a member or officer of the Hospital Board, or any other person, is absolutely untrue. —I am, etc.", C. EDWARDS, Director and Manager, Waikato Valley Dairy Coy.
