DAIRY CONTROL BILL.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I -would like, through your columns, to draw attention to a matter of some importance in connection with the vote to be taken on the above Bill. Under the conditions settled by Parliament the referendum was to be taken on the principle of one supplier one vote. I have received two ballotpapers, and I know of quite a number who have been similarly treated. This would point to a lax method in the preparation of the roll, for if due care had been taken and a careful check made of all names- sent in duplication would have been extremely rare. The matter to my mind is a serious one, and on such an important issue the greatest care should have been exercised in seeing that an absolutely correct roll was prepared. If this duplication is the same in other districts, then it can easily be seen that the taking of a poll on an incorrect roll is nothing more than a farce.—l am, etc., W. LEE MARTIN. Matangi, Oct. 4, 1923.

To the Editor. Sir, —My attention has been drawn to a report of a meeting at Te Awamutu in connection with the Dairy Produce Control Act, and to a challenge issued by Mr A. J. Sinclair to meet any opponent in a debate on the Bill. A stipulation added by Mr Sinclair is that his opponent must be a “ big " man. What is meant by this is not clear. It is capable of many Interpretations. However, on behalf of the opposition group of dairy companies, for which I am the official secretary, I have much pleasure in accepting Mr Sinclair’s challenge, and will endeavour to find a foeman worthy of his steel. It may be' possible to get Mr Maxwell up from Taranaki, or Mr Pacey may be able to como. In any case the opposition side will be capably represented on Wednesday next at the Town Hall, Te Awamutu.— I am, etc., F. H. LEONARD.
