Mr Massey, speaking at the Chamber of Commerce dinner at the Mansion House, traced New Zealand's development. She had always regarded Britain- as the most desirable customer, giving her all round preference, and where it is possible to do business with Britain no other countrj has a look in. New Zealand is willing to go further as opportunity offers. "I believe we can be just as patriotic in trade and commerce as in anj other way," said Mr Massey. "Trads conditions in England arc far from satisfactory. We must look round foi a remedy. I hope the conference will achieve something in this direction, The Empire can be made self-support-ing. Why should we not do if? Goods should be marked either "Foreign" oi "Within the Empire." This is a little thing to lask, and there should be no difficulty in granting the request.
