VALEDICTORY.

DR. DERRICK FAREWELLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. THAMES, Friday. A civic farewell was accorded Councillor (Dr.) Derrick and Mrs Derrick last night. Mr Rhodes, M.P. and Mayor, presided, and there was a good attendance. The Mayor, in presenting a valuable silver salver, suitably inscribed, referred to Dr. Derrick's services to Thames during the 'last ten years, for six of which he was on the Borough Council. He had taken the greatest interest in civic affairs, and promoted everything for the welfare of the borqugh. His wife had done invaluable work for a period on the Women's National Reserve, and had been the promoter in establishing a branch ■of the Plunket Society at Thames. He hoped they would accept the present as a slight token of the esteem in which the public of Thames held them.-.

Dr. Derrick, in replying, said he would value the gift not for its intrinsic value but for the feeling which promoted the gift. Thames had farseeing, courageous citizens, who would make the town go, ahead, and it had been a great pleasure for him and his wife to be with them.

Dr. and Mrs Derrick are leaving by the Port Napier for England, en route to their home in Scotland.
