SHIPPING TO WAIKATO.
SERVICE FROM LYTTELTON. ! An important development of the ■teamer trafflo on the Waikato River is to be inaugurated this month. Mr P. 0. Bridgeman, representing Messrs S. Holm and Company, of Wanganui, has been visiting Hamilton and other towns on the Waikato River, and has made arrangements to run the steamer Progress to Port iWaikato on October 16, with a cargo of general produce from Lyltelton. The cargo will be distributed at the various points on the Waikato River, including Tuakau, Mercer, Hamilton and Cambridge by the Roose Shipping Company's river fleet. During his visit to Hamilton Mr Bridgeman met the principal business men of the town, and received every encouragement from them to proceed :with 'the enterprise. It is considered that if the new service is properly supported a saving of freights and overhead charges should
be effected by Waikato merchants. Mr Bridgeman stated that, if the business warranted it, a second steamer, the John, would be placed on the Lyttel-ton-Port Waikato service.
