TREATMENT OF DIABETES.

EFFICACY OF INSULIN, By Telegraph.—Press Assoc,_tlon. WELLINGTON, Friday. The acting medical superintendent, Dr. Ewen, reported to the Hospital Board yesterday that arrangements have been made for the treatment of diabetes patients. Experience showed that insulin was undoubtedly effective, enabling patients to increase their diet, put on weight, and engage in light work. It must be taken daily for life, and the increased diet has to be strictly regulated and balanced with the dose of insulin found most suitable in each case. The average stay in hospital is from three to six weeks during which time the “balance” is worked out, and patients are instructed as to suitable foods, how to take insulin, and to avoid the dangers attendant upon its use.
