THE PUBLIC SERVICE.
POSTAL OFFICERS CONFER.
By Telegraph.—Special to Times. WELLINGTON, Monday. The Post and Telegraph Officers' Conference passed the following resolutions to-day:— That no reclassification of the service will be satisfactory which does not bring the spending power of salaries allotted up to the 1914 level. That, in the opinion of the conference, Regulation 8 is being used for the purpose of defeating the right to appeal, as established by the Amendnient Act, 1918, and its amendments. It therefore asks that the regulation be revoked. That all male officers should be guaranteed a minimum wage of £234 per annum after reaching the age of 21 years, further progress to the maximum of the class to follow when, by length of service, a higher salary should become due. That the Government bo urged to grant all public servants full political and civil rights. That, in order to relieve the existing stagnation in regard to promotion of qualified long-service officers in the rank and file, and thus remove the grounds for considerable unrest, the department be requested lo retire forthwith all officers of 10 years' service.
