GOLD EMBARGO.
THE LOSSES OF MINERS,
REPRESENTATION TO CHANCELLOR

The Premier was urged by the Chairman of the Goldflelds and Mines Committee (Mr T. W. Rhodes, Thames) to make urgent representations to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to do something to compensate miners for their losses through the gokl embargo, which had been lifted in the Dominion nine months after Australia, which bad benefited at their expense. Mr Masscy said lie would be glad to take up the matter again with the Chancellor. He had done so on his last visit, but ho was afraid he had not made much headway. The Government of New Zealand had not made one copper through the embargo, and the banks had staled that neither had they.
