FAMILY MAN’S TROUBLES.
— JUDGMENT ORDER REFUSED.
A man who stated that he had eleven children to support appeared at the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, this morning in defence of a judgment summons, by which a country baker sought to obtain a judgment order for £9 against him for bread supplied. Defendant stated that he had been share-milking during the time the debt was contracted, and that the children, whose ages ranged from 23 years down to nine months, had been living on the farm with him. He had earned £5 10s per week clear profit during the lime lie was share-milking. The children above tho age of 15 had been working with him on the farm. House rent had been free, while all milk had been supplied them without charge. Defendant had now left the farmland was doing drainage work at the rate of Is Gd an hour, but was now paying rent. The older children were now working out on farms. In refusing an order His Worship said tiiat by rights- defendant was entitled to an allowance for his children's wages when share-milking, and such payments came as a prior consideration.
