An enthusiastic house at the popular Theatre Royal last evening followed the fortunes of Reginald Denny, the hero of the gripping melo-dramatic racing romance, "The Kentucky Derby," with keen interest, and absorbed its effective story with, avidity, A true racing atmosphere pervades the picture, the "types" of humanity shown in connection with the scenes aboard ship are striking impersonations, and the race for the Derby is capitallv presented. • Bebe Daniels in "•One Wild Week" won popular favour, and smart comedy came from Seweir Ford's "Torchy Steps -Out," with Johnnie Hines as "Torchy." Tonight's final showing should attract a good house. Seats should be reserved at Paul's. TO-MORROW'S THREE STARS.'./. At the head of to-morrow's three star offerings will be Lila Lee and James- Kirkwood ,in Robert Louis Stevenson's oelebratcd. South Seas novel, "Ebb-Tide." This Is. a great picture. Those-who have read this story of Alaska will recall its many thrills — the fight-of a thousand men for possession of-a little, nine foot square patch of ground with Lite builders of "The Iron Trail" coming out victorious—the race against the coming of the,broken ice to get the bridge completed,, and the many other highlights of amazing clearness. Miss Bettina Edwards again proved a big favourite in her artistic Fireworshippers' Dance, and in response to persistent applause repeated a portion of her dance as an encore. "No Defence," with William Duncan and Edith Johnson will be the attraction. William Duncan plays the role of a young man who goes West to make his fortune. Miss Bettina Edwards will be seen In a charming new dance. In addition there Is a Rupert Hughes production, "Come On Over," featuring Colleen Moore, a comedy-drama that has tons of laughs. COMING "MONTE CHRISTO." Those t who have witnessed the special William Fox production of "Monte Chrlsto," based on Dumas' undying novel, have declared It without hesitation to be a splendid photodrama containing a cast of surprising excellence, charming photography, sane subtitles and costumes which serve to stimulate the fancy, are some of the contributing factors. "Monte Ghristo" comes to the Strand Theatre next Tuesday. The management strongly advises intending patrons to make sure of their seats by booking at Lewis R. Eady and Son, Ltd. "SCANDAL" TO-MORROW. Probably no play in the past decade has created so much talk as Cosriio Hamilton's brilliant and daring comedy "Scandal," and its presentation at the Town Hall to-morrow night for a return season has been looked forward to; by Hamilton play-goers. The story of. "Scandal" deals-with a young society butterfly, bored with the routine of society rounds, who longed: to break away from family tradition and taste life in Bohemia. Her midnight visits to a famous artist and the unexpected denouncement when the family confront her is a story that the author has written with a master hand. A new- leading lady in Miss Doris Duane is to be introduced to Hamilton audiences. Miss Duane is a young actress of-the modern school who has had a rapid rise to the stellar- rank. She played with brilliant success in the original New York production and for a period filled the leading role. She also has been particularly successful on the English stage. Eric Harrison, the brilliant comedy, lead, who claims the chief honours with Doris Duane in "Scandal," has been associated with some of the world's, leading artists. As Pclham Franklin in "Scandal" he leaves nothing to be desired as the duo in the famous "bedroom scene." Associated with them in the present production is a specially selected company including Harold Moran, Lucy Carter, George Broad, John Galway, Grahame Newton, Mary Mar Gregor, Arthur Adams, Arthur Orbell. The box plans for the season are on view at Paul's.
