RAILWAY ENGINES.
PURCHASE ABROAD DEPLORED.
DOMINION MANUFACTURE DESIRED
By Telegraph.—Press Association WANGANUI, Friday.
Mr Veitch, M.P., has written to Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Railways, strongly dissenting from the policy of spending large sums of public moneys outside the Dominion for the purchase of locomotives, which could be manufactured in New Zealand at a cheap rate. Mr Veitch urges the necessity for immediately establishing the necessary plant for the purpose, and characterises as a grave public scandal the large sums of money sent from New Zealand, while capable workmen arc tramping the roads in search of employment.
