GOOD RESULTS LOOKED FOR

The first meeting of the Tongariro National Park Board was held at Waimarino yesterday. Mr J. B. Thompson (Under-Secretary for Lands) was in the?,chair.

The lion. D. H. Guthrie, in qpening the proceedings,. said the enthusiasm that was being shown, in the development of the Tongariro Park on national lines >vas a matter of great satisfaction, and he looked for important results arsing out of the present meeting. It would be an excellent idea iff members of the Board could visit the park during the Alpine sports m August next. Arrangements might be made to take a film of the games, the displaying of which would b e a splendid advertisement for the Park.

The following officers were appointed:—Warden, Mr J. Cullen; caretaker, Mr A. Cowley; secretary to board, Air W. R. Jourdain; treasurer, Mr J. N. O’Donnell. As one of the trustees in the estate of the late Mr R. C.. Bruce, Air A. G. Simpson announced that he would donate £11)00 towards the development of the Park. A sub-committee was appointed to report on a suitable site for a hostel. The necessity for finance to develop the Park apd improve the access was touched on, and it was resolved that a request be placed before the Government for favourable consideration for the granting / of a subsiiy upon local bodies and other contributions.
