A SENSATIONAL ARREST
LIQUOR IN WAIHI. CAR-DRIVER'S ESCAPE. 'By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, Friday. A sensational arrest and the capture of a motor car hailing from Thames, and containing GO bottles of whisky, were effected here last evening by Senior Sergeant O'Grady. It appears that the police were watching the residence of Charles A. Dillainore, when a car, carrying no lights, drove up to the house. When Die police approached, the driver jumped out, seized a bicycle which was on the car, and cleared out. The other passenger also jumped out and bolted, but was captured by Constable Trask after an exciting chase. The man arrested proved to be Dillamorc The police then searched the car, and discovered two sacks, each containing 30 bottles of whisky. Pending further charges in connection with "breaches of the Licensing Act as affecting a no-license district, Dillamorc will be charged with illegally converting a motor car to his own use. The police ascertained that'the car is the property of Mr Manning, a Thames taxi proprietor, who alleges that his car was taken from his garage yesterday evening without authority. The police so far have not traced the driver of the car, who made good his escape on the bicycle, which is the properly of Dillarr.ore. The car is now in the possession of the police. The affair caused somewhat of a sensation here. DILLAMORE CHARGED. REMANDED FOR EIGHT DAYS. WAIHI, Saturday. Charged with aiding and abetting in llic removal 'of a motor ear and its conversion to his own use, Charles Dillainore appeared at the 'Police Court yesterday, and was remanded on hail for eight days.
