In connection with the opening of the Bombay Legislative Council the Governor, in the course of his speech, welcoming the Duke of Connaught, referred lo the newly-arisen spirit of nationalism in India, the restless eagerness for corporate progress, and the impatience at restraint, which, while it contained the possibility of temporary dangers, he said, afforded the first and sure hope of the success of our policy. The Duke af Connaught again urged, and demanded, the sinking of racial and sectarian differences, and working in union.
