DEFAULTING LOCAL BODIES
HOSPITAL CONTRIBUTIONS. WRITS TO BE ISSUED. The treasurer’s report read before a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board yesterday, showed a big list of local bodies which had Tailed in paying their contributions. Mr Seavill (Raglan) -considered that a remit should be submitted to the forthcoming conference -Of Hospital Boards, asking for legislation to enable Hospital Boards to impose the 10 per cent penalty on aelaulting-contributing I bodies. Mr Hill (Rotorua Town) • thought (Contributing bodies should he permitted to pay up quarterly oon definite dates to be fixed.
Mr O. Johnstone .said '.every latitude had been given them, but some of them had made no attempt whatever to pay. He thought the defaulters ■Should be sued. The secretary (Mr 'Conradi) said this -might mean putting receivers into the t different offices. Mr Johnstone said the expense of .receivc-s would probably be 'recoverable -out of the rates. It was decided to give the -defaulters :a month’s notice to pay ttp, pending leg-;! p-oceedin^s. Among the defaulters ate (the following;—Piako Comity., £831); Waipa •County, £664; Mateimata 'County, £655; Waitomo County, £6*lß; Rotorua Town, £51); Awakino (County, £399; Te Kuiti Borough, £233; ■Eawhia County, £133; Wharepapa Road Board. £217; Rotorua County, £214; East Taupo County, £178; 'Cambridge Borough, £43; Parawera ’Road Hoard, £135; Huntly Town District, £63; Ngaruawahia Town District, £49; Mangaorongo Road Board, .‘£4l; Kakepuku Road Board, £32; West Taupo County, £2O; making the -..total contributions owing £447,4.
