PRINCE OF WALES VISIT
RENOWN GETTING READY. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Assn.) LONDON, December 31. H.M.s. Renown's engines and machinery are undergoing overhaul at Portsmouth prior to the Prince of Wales' voyage. The Prince will use the same apartments as on his Canadian trip. His accommodation differs little from that of his fellow officers, and no structural alterations will be made. It is not likely that the Renown will be accompanied bj{ an escort, but it is probable that the pre-war precedent will be followed, and that the Channel Fleet will escort the Renown as far as Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean Fleet will take up the duties. It is likely that Captain Ernest A. Taylor, who commanded the Renown on her trip to Canada, will command her on .the Australian trip. The Evening Standard's announcement is unofficial. It is not likely that the Prince will go to India direct from Australia. It is expected that he will return and spend at least three months in England before going. The suggestion that he will visit New Zealand first is based on the possibility that the Eenown will use the Panama route, but that has not yet been decided.
