HAMILTON ABATTOIRS
STILL IN THE AIR. ANOTHER OFFICIAL VISIT. The < iovernment lias apparently not >i't made tip its mind on the question of the Hamilton abhatoir site. Plans have at various times been submitted to the Minister for Agriculture and received the approval of the Hon. VV. F.^ 1 Massey in one instance and the Hon. W. I). 8. MaeDonald in another. The site tias been inspected by the Premier, the Hon. W. 1). S. MaeDonald, Hon. G AY. Russell, Hon. Dr. McNab, and various Departmental olllcers, ineluding Dr. Reakes (Director of the Live Stock and Meat Division), Dr. Valintine (Inspector-General of Hospitals) and Dr. Makgill (District Health Officer), all of whom considered the site suitable for the purpose intended. Application has been made for the gazetting of the land, but the matter has now been held up by the Public Works Department, pending a visit by the Hon. \V. Fraser (Minister of Public Works) next week. The discussions on the abbatoir question have now extended over a period of ten years. When a letter setting out the Minister's intention was received by the Council last night, a general laugh went round the table, and the Mayor remarked that soon the whole Ministry would have visited the spot.
