ONLY HALF SUPPLY
INFANTRY OF TWENTY-FIRST. 60 MEN STILL REQUIRED. On making enquiries at the Defence Office this morning, in respect to the response being made to the call of men for the Twenty-first Reinforcements, a Times representative was informed that the shortage was a very marked one. The draft is due to leave for the training camps on September 19, yet in the inter val there is the heavy tally of 60 men to be found if the Twenty-first Reinforce, meats are to go away up to the full strength sought from the group. It has been the experience ; since the outbreak of war, that all branches of the forces are found to be readily subscribed to with exception of the infantry. That is the position to-day; the infantry requirements are only half supplied, and the deficit, if it is going to be wiped off at all, can only be accounted for by a fortnight of vigorous recruiting. If not we cannot blink our eyes to the fact that the No. 4 Group will need to have applied the only remedy—the Military Service Act measures.
