PUBLIC OPINION

A QUERY.

FRANKTON-WHATAWHATA ROAD.

As expressed by conesponuents, whose letters are welcome, hut for whose views we have no responsibility.

To the Editor. Sir, —Mr Ambury, at the freezing meeting, held in Auckland on Wednesday is reported to have stated that one large exporting firm holding many shares in the company wa3 really entitled to about one-third of tfce?space. Will Mr Ambury explain why this company is entitled to a third of the space?—l am, etc., H.M.

To the Editor. Sir, The present state of the above road is quite within keeping with the definition of the Waipa County "that it is notorious for its bad roads." I understand this road has been in existence now for over thirty years, during which period I suppose enough money has been squandered on it tj put asphalt down the whole way, but what have we got"?-—a road which is a disgrace to any local body having control of roads. What at one time was the crown of the road is now below the water-tables,or lather where the water-tables should be. The road in and around Whatawhata are no exception either; culverts and drains are blocked, and the roads generally are a quagmire. It would do some of the councillors good, when visiting Whatawhata, to take a pattern from the roads of Raglan County a few chains over the boundary. Apologising for trespassing on your valuable space,— I am, etc., RATEPAYER. Whatawhata, June 24, 1915.
