The weather in this p*rt of the country is still warm and dry, and although raiu is needed for the grass and potatoes, there could not be a better season for harvesting and haymaking, which are now in full swing all over this locality, the crops ot both hay and oats being exceptionally heavy ones. The Piako County Council is effecting consid-rabie repairs at present on the Uordou-Waharoa and Gordon Settlement ruads, several of the bridges undergoing a thorough overhauling. A petition to have the Waharoa l'uranga-O-Moana road opened tor trullij has bo m numerously signed by loc il rati-p lyers and presentud to the member fur this riding. Considerable sympathy is felt all over this locality for Mr and Mrs Watts on account of the death of their second ion, I'oiu, a boy of over 11 years of age, which took place at tho Hamilton Hospital on Tuesday morning, heart disease being the immediate cause of death. The funeral left the parents' residence for the Waharoa cemetery on Thursday afternoon, there being, besides the teachers and Walursa sch >ol children, a great number of residents and visitors in attendance. The Kev. A. J. Toug lead the funeral service. At Matam.it a and Mamwaru very succetst'u 1 school sports were held on Thursday, games and r.ic is boiDg the order of tliM day, and a Christmas prize for every child present. At Matamata the refreshments wore laid out in the local hall and the spurts hold on the green close by, In the evening a very enjjyabli) dance was hold in tho woolthed.
