What proved to be one of the most eoj >yable concerts that have been given in Huutly was that which took place in the Vjlunteer Hall on Friday night, the object being the augmentation of the funds ot ot Anthony's (Catholic) Church. The hall was fi.led with a large and appreciative audience, the members of which showed by their applause and the number of encores demanded, their entire enjoyment ot tlie music U treat placed before them. The strangers, comprising Mrs Wenzl Scholium, .Hiss Kockelitle (Waihi), Messrs Claude Gleeton, Will Skerrett, and Thome were naruily reoeived, and the local singers were in good voice, their efforts pleasing the audieuoe greatly. The annual class-firing of the Huntly Public School cadets was commenced at the range ef the Huntly Kiflea on Monday afternoon. While the ''trained men" were lir ng, under the supervision of Captain Ediot. the recruits were taken in aiming drill by Lieutenant Cummins, of the Huutly Kifies, the result of his instruction being proved by the shooting of the b >ys, with whom no diUieulty was experienced at the firiug p..int. Some 3D cadets were exorcised at the 100 yds range, whera each oa-let tired eight rounls; ona aightor, which did not count, and seven counting shots. On the whole the shooting was sati.-fajt ry. Private Tom Leather made the p .s-ible, seven bulls. On Sunday last a flower service wag conducted in St. Paul's (Anglican) Church, the vicar of the parish, the Kev. A. J. Brck, officiating, and preaching an appropriate sermon to a large congregation. I'lie hymns and anthem were appropriate to the occasion. For the past two Sundays Mr Zimmerman, superintendent of the Sunday school, has been conducting examinations for the Hi-hep's prizas. Owing t) a tall from his pony sustained towards the end of last week, Ken, the elder son of Mr K. S. Wight, matnger of the Taupiri Coal ilines, will be obliged to remain in bed for some days. Messrs H. Coulson, Win. Ellison, F. H. Kx n, J. Hughes, and C. Richards tried the Waipa on Sunday.
