LATEST WELLINGTON NEWS.
(by TELEGRAPH.—I'RESS association.) Wellington, Last Night. "La Grippe" has alioady appeared in Wellington. Several caßes are reported. The disease, the same as at Home, has also attacked a number of horses in the city. Messrs W. R. Haselden and 11. Thompson, two well-known local solicitors, were charged at the R.M. Court to-day with having incited the destruction of the tollgate at Ngauharanga last week. After taking evidence at length as to what occurred at the public meeting held to protest against the erection of the toll-gates, and what part accused took in the meeting, the information against Haselden was withdrawn, and tho magistrate dismissed the case against Thompson. It was shown that although references was made at the meeting to the burning of the gates, they were treated greatly as jokes. It is understood that Messrs Haselden and Thompson intend proceeding against the Hntt County Council for malicious prosecution, claiming £1000 damages.
