PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
THE usual monthly meeting of the Piako County Council was held al the Council Chambers, Cambiidge, on Wednesday evening. Pie sent :—Cis. \V. L. 0. Williams, (chairman), J. C. Fnth, W. T. Fiifch, Cliepmell, E. Maclean, Brunskill, and Gould. The minutes <>t the previous meeting were lead and eon fit mcd. JSTtw Mmiui.k.— Mr Chas. Gould the new member for the W.«itoa di&tiut, vice Mr J. P Campbell, took his seat, and was intioduced by ( 1. Cliepmell. County Ro\i> ProcLuana),— On the motion of Cr. J. C. Tilth, it was dgieed that the necessity step-, be taken to pioclaim the leserve along the western side of the Waitoa livei a county load. Firth, a leply was received fiom Mr Oliver, Secretary of Goldlields, stating that the W.uden had been in structed to snppl} the nece«saiy letuins of the Te Aioba goldfield to the council as desned by that body. The Ni:w Baitkky at Tk Aroma.— Further communication was leceived from Mr Petei Feiguson and party iespecting the widening ot the lower horse track, for the conveyance of the new battery on Cook's site.— Cr. Filth said as he was going over to the Aroh.v shortly he might bo able to airange with the piomoters of the new baiteiy to assist them by eanying the batteiy material up the fiist giade to the tiamway and then along the upper load to the battery side, He would leconimend that the matter of fanning the load suggested by Mr Feiguson be defencd, as it was likely that the tiamway foima tion would be mjuied by a slip caused by the cutting uecessaiy for the suggested road. He had been led to nndeistxnd that this was likely. A slip of over 1000 tons of eaith had pieuously oeciued on the same spur lcquiiing an exti a expenditure of £2000 on the pait of the council. It was at the bottom of this veiy spin that it vis intended to cany out exteusive eaitli woiks— On the motion of Cr Maclean it was agieed th<>t before anything be done in the way of widening the lower hoise track as suggested by Mr Feiguson, the engineer, Mr Puichas, and the tiamway manager, Mr Adams be instructed to repot t upon the mattei. Road at SjiMTi.snrnY.— Respecting the application of Air Blown, a settler on the Giant and Foster block, for a loul through the block, giving him and othei aettleis access to their piopeities, the engineer, Mr Pnithas, lepoited that the proposed road would cost K'2W, including £160 for budges, &c. He believed Mi Roche would contribute to the cost. — As the council had no money in hand wherewith to undertake such an extensive work, the cleik was instiucted to communicate with Mr ßiovvn to this effect. Tk Arohv Pound.— Nathaniel Bastow wrote infoi ming the council he had impounded ceitain cattle for trespassing on bis property at Te Aioha. The poundkeeper had sold the cattle but lefused to pay the amount of damages claimed, though the cattle when sold leali&ed a stun of £14. The amount of the writei's claim was £7 10s. — The cleik stated he had written to the complainant leferring him to the act— lt was agieed to icplj to Mr Bastow iufoiming him that the remedy was in his ow n hands, it being ;• matter entirely betv\ ecu himself and tin. pound keeper. Footpath at Tk Akojia.— T'-e Clnef Postmaster at the Tliaincs wiote di awing the attention of the council to the state of the footpath between the Aroha post office and \Yhitaker stieet. This was impassable. He also diew attention to an open ditch in the same vicinity, w Inch was exceedingly dangerous to people visiting the post office at night, and asked to have the same boat ded over.— lt was agreed to leave the matter in the hands of the engineei, Mr Puichas. Cr. Whitakkk's .Rksk;\ vtion.— Cr. Whitaker wrote resigning his portion as councillor for the Te Aroha Riding.— lt was agreed to leceive the resignation. The council, after considering tramway business and the chaii man's report, went into committee on the matter ot finance. Cambridge - Oxford Road. — Ci. Maclean drew attention to the present condition of this road. On the motion of Cr. Maclean, it was agreed that the engineer be instructed to go over the road and report on it, with a view of communicating with the Government on the matter. - Taotaoroa Main Road. — Cr. BrunsUill drew attention to the bad state of this road, but nothing was done in the matter. Waitoa-Waiorokuomai Road.— Cr. Cbepraell stated that there was a piece of land which the above-proposed road passed through, and which the Waitoa Board wished to acquire. It was a Government reserve, and only a few chains were required.— lt was agreed that the council should take the necessary steps to acquire the piece of land for the pur/•pose named.
