THE KIHIKIHI SCHOOL.

TO THE EDITOB. Sm, —Your correspondent's report of the meeting of householders to elect a school committee, as appeared in your issue of Tuesday last, I must state, was quite the rever&e of what it ought to have been. When persons take upon themselves to write about public affairs they should state facts as they occur, without favour or affection to any peison or paifcy. The most objections^ part of his statement is :—" It was felt th.it if the old committee were re-elected it would have led to his (meaning the teacher's) removal, which statement would infer that the old committee had been kicked out. On the contraiy, five of them were re-elected— all that were nominated. The facts are : The non-removal of the teacher depended solely upon the reelection of the old committee. Some short time previous to the election, some cowardly attacks had been made upon Mr Nicholsons character. " Cowardly," inasmuch as it was slanderous correspondence to the Board of Education, unknown to the teacher or the school committee. The consequence was letters of enquiry from the board to the chairman of the committee respecting the teacher's conduct, and although the chairman returned an answer to the board giving Mr Nicholson an excellent character, that the children weie lapidly proving since he had been in charge of i school, and that he was giving , general satisfaction, still the boaid thought it would be best to remove him. After this Mr Graca proceeded to AuckKnd and had an interview with the chairman of the board, who told Mr Grace that they would wait to see the result of the election, and should the majority of the old committee be re-elected Mr Nicholson would not be removed. After this Mr Kay and party put up four candidates with the intention of ousting the old committee. The figures of the poll will show the result. Old committee: Grace, 137; McDonald, 113 ; Blencowe, 74 ; Moncrieff, 87. Opposition : Bcny, 38; Kay, 23; Farrell, 22; Qualtiough, 21. Mr Giace's votes alone would mine than double the whole of the opposition that were elected, and should be quite sufficient to show the feeling of the public towards, Mr and Mrs Nicholson in their capacity as being fit and proper people to be in charge of their school. — I am, &c, Sehupek PAKAfUsJ. Kihikihi, Feb. 7th, 1884.
