HARAPIPI. {FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) July 11.
A public meeting was held here on Saturday last, at 2 p.ra , to consider the subject of forming a rifle corps for this district. It was attended by nearly every settler of the district. Mr E. G. MeMinn was voted to the chair, and stated that from information he had received, ho could inform the meeting that if sufficient names were enrolled, the Government would accept the lervices of the corps and supply them with the snider rifle. Mr J. H. Thompson then proposed, and Mr John Morrisson seconded, " That it was advisable that a riflo corps be formed in this district," which was carried unanimously ; and all those present agreed to join the corps, the corps to be called the Pirongia Rifles. The question of a suitable site for a target was discussed, and one close at hand w«s soon found. A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman, which settled the business of the meeting. I consider the fonuatiou of a rifle corps in this district very necessary, as it is too far to go to Alexandra to parade, and it is also right that every settler should have a good rifle in his house as, in the present state of affairs, he never knows how soon lie may be called upon to use it.
