GARAGE BROKEN INTO AT WINTON.
SMALL SUM IN SILVER TAKEN FROM TILL.
Mr ..P. A. Blyth's garage at, Win ton was broken into either late, on Sunday night or early oii Monday morning and the sum of 3s in threepenny pieces 'was taken from the till, which was found outside the back door. A few pennies and half-pennies which had also been left in the till were not taken. The office clock and a-- soldering bolt were missing. When Mr D. Blyth opened the premises for' business at 8 o'clock on Monday morning, he noticed that the big sliding doors at tho rear of the garage were open. Upon inspection, he found outside the door the till, a hack saw. a tyro lever and a, stick of solder which had been fashioned into a hook.
lb appeared that entrance had been gained by pushing the bent stick of solder through tho crack between the two doors and, by lifting it upwards, tho bolt which holds the catch to a staplo had been lifted out. A cut about half an 'inch deep in the iron catch showed where- an attempt had been made to saw it through. A piece of wood had been torn from the door, evidently to enable the saw to be pushed through- the crack between the doors.
The office door had been forced open apparently with tho tyre lever, and the lock broken.
Mr Blyth said ho had noticed the stick of solder lying at tho back <loor on Sunday. The hack saw belonged to him and he had last seen it lying on a bench beside a window which had a small broken pane in it.
