SPEED OF REARMAMENT IN BRITAIN. Y WELLINGTON, March 6. Lord Nuffield arrived by. the Awatca. on his sixth visit lo the Dominion. He will spend only three days, going to
Palnieraton North tomorrow and then ti Napier, returning to Wellington bv,waj of Wairarapa and leaving by the Raiigitiki on Tlnvrsday. Lord Nuffield said his trip was in keeping with his policy of keeping in touch with conditions in the Dominions. Discussing Britain, he said she was busy on a rearming programme, which would not be cut off suddenly, but would .slacken so that industrial production would gradually replace it. Britain Avas busier than any other country. Discussing the international situation, Lord Nuffield said he did not "think there was going t 0 be any Avar. Mr Neville Chamberlain's idea was to prevent any further bloodshed. When people suggested Mr Chamberlain wa.s afraid, thp fact avus : "We all are." Britain was rearming not to fight, but to prevent fighting and her rearma,nient was faster than that of anybody else. International, affairs were evolving to a degree that if a war Avas started the rest of the Avorld would be against the aggressor nation. Lord Nuffield said he thought Mr Chamberlain was responsible for America's present international He made reference to Jewish refugees. Britain Avas taking a. ' large proportion and he thought the Dominions Avould be better off if they took a fair number of the better class, avlio Avero neaa-ly a.ll people of high education who could teach something. He had noticed some on liis trip out and was surprised I" find they Avere such a desirable type. ,
