BIG EARTHQUAKE
NORTH OF NEW ZEALAND RECORDED AT OBSERVATORY (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. At 3.42 o'clock this morning the seismographs at the Dominion observatory began recording a big earthquake. Preliminary tremors lasted two minutes fifteen seconds. Then violent oscillations were recorded for about three hours. A preliminary calculation indicates that the direction of the ’quake was N.N.E. of New Zealand, probably near the Kermadic Islands.
