"THE ASSASSIN’S HAND"

LANG’S POLICY SPEECH SUSPEND INTEREST PAYMENTS By Telegraph—Copyright-—Press Assn. SYDNEY, May 26. In announcing the State Labour policy at Auburn to-night, the exPremier, Mr. Lang, condemned the attitude of other Governments in attempting t<j meet oversea interest payments of £36,000,000 a year rather than seek a moratorium, and said that if his party were returned to power it would contribute only so much towards the payment of oversea interest as remained after pressing internal requirements had been satisfied.

A temporary suspension of interest payments would not bring salvation, nor would tinkering with wages, as provided in the Premiers plan, solve problems. Immediate relief would be found in the Lang plan of greatly reducing interest charges, also by compelling financial institutions to function in the interests of the community. His Government had sought to do that by levying heavy taxation on banks and big financial institutions and was right on the eve of victory when the hand of the assassin struck, swift and unerring.
