Extensive Damage POWER LINES AFFECTED ' ROAD COMAIUNICATION CUT OFF (Per Press Association) TIAIARU. Last Night. Not for many years has South Canterbury experienced, such heavy rain as that, which has fallen during the past- 24 hours up till live o’clock to-night. The fall in some districts exceeded six inches, the greater part of this being recorded before 9 o’clock this morning.

Coming so closely on top of the severe drenching the .countryside received in February, is caused further extensive flooding and damage. Tho Alaekenzie country missed the greater part of the Tain, but surfered from a severe snowstorm the fall at Fairlie township during the night being eighteen inches. A. similar amount fell at the Hermitage, and two feet at Tekapo.

There were vast stretches of surface water but this quickly subsided. Road communication both north and south of Timaru was cut oft this morninc-. but cars got through from the north to-night. Tho main railway line is not so far affected.

(Per Press Association) WAIMATE. Last Night. . The second flood in three months developed overnight, in the Waimatc district, the rainfall varying from iour and a half inches to one and three-

quarters in various areas. Communication by road north is broken at. Makikihi and Parcora, but other communications are uninterrupted.
