Lord Bledisloe’s Advice

“BETTER TIMES ARE COMING.’’

RETURNING TO PRE-WAR PRICES

(Per Press Association)

BLENHEIM, Last Night.

Speaking in reply to Blenheim’s official ■welcome, Lord Bledisloe said:

“We arc passing through difficult times. There is industrial depression in the Dominion as elsewhere throughout the world, but don’t let us be depressed in spirit. It is characteristic of the British that, to use a well-known expression, ‘they do not let their tails down ’ in bad times.

“We have got to look up; not on the ground. I have every reason to believe better times are. coming, for we have to bear in mind that when prices are low the consumer all over the world becomes more active. Products come into greater demand, amr therefore there is a prospect of prices rising, but there is not great advantage in having the prices of our products to high. Indeed, I believe that we are going back to pre-war prices, and wo have got to accommodate ourselves to it. “It is well to remember that when prices are low, the purchasing power of wages or income is increased. That is what wo have to look for. If prices continue low the cost of living comes down at the same time. Do don’t let us be altogether depressed.”

Later their Excellencies visited the Plunkc-t building and rest rooms, the War Memorial, tho Blenheim School, where the Springlands children were also assembled, Marlborough College, where the party was entertained at morning tea and the Convent Schools. The Vice-Regal party wore entertained at luncheon bv tho local bodies at the

Masonic Hall and visited the show grounds in the afternoon.
