H.B. RECORD SHOW.
The attendance at last week’s Show at Tomoana was probably the largest of any previous gathering in Hawke’s Bay. Twelve months ago, on the occasion of the last Show on the old grounds at Hastings, the receipts for the two days, totalling £lO6O, established a record for the Society. But that record was not long to remain, for the receipts for Wednesday and Thursday reached £1335, an increase of £275. That amount is almost double the receipts for 1923, when, despite the wet weather, £752 was taken at the gates. The railways, too, benefited by the extra support accorded the A. and P. Society, between 6000 and 7000 people travelling to the grounds by train. Of these, 2800 made the’ journey from Eskdale, Napier and intermediate stations, 2200 from Hastings, and from 800 to 1000 from stations further south. OPAPA DISASTER. If, and when, the full story of the Opapa railway disaster is told, the public of the Dominion will be provided with a first-class sensation. Members of the railway service in both Islands arc apparently in possession of alleged facts that are, to say the least, startling.— ‘‘ Manawatu Times. ’ ’
