COPPER TOKENS.
(TO TUP, EDITOU OF TnE INDEPENDENT.) Sir, — You advise tho public in your last issue not to accept tho copper tokens now in circulation. What are the public to do ? Before these tokens came into circulation the want of small change Avas an intolerable nuisance. I believe I am within tho mark when I state that there is not. £50 worth of copper coin of the realm in Wel- 1 lington. The Banks keep no stock of it, and recent events have proved that instead of the j powerß-fchafc-be being in a position to insist on fche Banks keeping a stock of small change for the I convenience of tho public that the boot is rather on the other leg. The Government being in business as Printers, Reporters, and Builders, perhaps ifc is fcheir inten- j tion to issue tokens of their own, and the Treasurer may during his visit to tbe old country have a number struck off Avith his own profile thereon. Yours, &c, A.M.
