DUNEDIN LIVE STOCK MARKET.
We take the following from Driver, Maclean and. Co's report for week ending 11th August, 1863 :— The market during the week has been but little affected by the several lots of cattle (both fat and stores) thatbave come forward, each lot as offered finding buyers at fully our late quotations. We have to report the arrival of the Oregon, from Gipps Land, with 185 store cattle ; Juno, from Hobart Town, with 144 fat and Btore cattle and working bullocks ; Prince Alfred, from Wanganui, with 45 fat cattle, 100 pigs ; Provincial cattle to hand, Bay 100 stores and 60 fat Fat Cattle.— About 100 head were yarded during the week ; but the market being quite bare, were all taken by the trade at rates equal to our late quotations. We sold 40 head (equal sexes) from Messrs Fenwick's station, at an average of £21 ; 38 head, ex Prince Alfred from Wanganui, at an average of £22, or equal to about 70s per lOOlbs. Most of the cattle offered were of rather inferior quality, and we do not anticipate any permanent decline from present rates for some time to come. Fat Calves continue scarce; only 20 were yarded, which were disposed of from £6 to £6. We sold a small lot at an average of £6 sa. The Daily Telegraph says : — Hams and bacon are scarcely saleable at our last quotations, although the larger Importers are not disposed to give way. Large importations of Colonial are expected, which deter buyers operating. Butter is still arriving in considerable quantities, and holders are not so firm ; there is a large quantity of inferior in the market, via Melbourne, i which has the effect of interfering with really good parcels, which may be quoted at la 3d to Is 3£d.
