WELLINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Me3sbs G. H. Ldxford & Co's Beport for the week ending August 21, 1863. We have little change to report in the cattle trade of the past week, prices continue steady at former quotations. Several mobs, have arrived in town, and although the butchers are for the present pretty well supplied, the demand for carcass beef for the South, will prevent any decline in price during the whiter. 3& head of fat cattle were brought in on Saturday, from the Wairarapa, by Mr McMastera, and were taken by the trade at current rates, and 100 head of mixed stores from the West Coast belonging to .Captain Robinson came in for shipment. Most of the stock in the vicinity of the town has been now shipped in the following vessels, which are detained for lack of wind, viz : — the Harriet Armytage, the Tyra, and Valiant, whose cargoes collectively number 350 head of fat and store cattle. We noticed a very fine lot of fat wethers which were brought in from the paddocks of D. Riddiford, Esq, at the Hutt, for home consumption, whose fine condition at this season proves the advantages attendant on the system he has adopted, and from which he must be reaping golden results. We quote : — Fat stock, 4Jd per lb, in good demand ; store cattle, 85s to 100s ; fat wethers, 5d per lb ; store do, 14s to 16s, price rising on account of fleece ; store ewes, much inquired for, none offering. Houses — Good horses in demand at £25 to £15 each.
