produce, aud great numbers that have been driven into town in anticipation of a demand will have to be sent back. Speculators will not listen to the voice of the charmer, charm he ever so wisely; and account sales . speak more tangibly than prices current The heavy | hits that have of late told so fearfully upon the shippers together with the hitherto unremunerative character of trade, from the high scale of charges connected with it, have not heen without their effect, and until we see some alteration wa do not think it probable that shipments will increase from this port Store Cattie.—Our arrivals of store cattle have somewhat diminished. 200 head of good mixed cattle were brought in from Gillies's station, and left at the Hutt A small mob from the West Coast passed on to the Peninsula—both intended for shipment We have no sales to report Fat Cattle.—Fat bullocks have gone back slightly in price, the demand being limited to beasts for home consumption. "We hear that aa low as 3d has been taken; 3|d to 3£d may however be quoted at the market rate. Fat Sheep.—A lot of fat wethers from McMasters's station, in prime condition were brought into town on Monday last, and a small lot from Wilson's, ai Pahau. These two were taken by the trade at good rates, 17s 6d to 20s each. We quote fat sheep 4^d per tb. Store Sheep.—No alteration. Store Ewes.—Are still sought after, and would recommend good prices, 21s to 235. Horses.—-No demand. G. H. Luxford & Co.
