MEETING *OF WOMEN’S - ' INSTITUTE The March meeting of the Waikino Women’s Institute was held recently, the president presiding over a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of the ode, followed by the prayer and motto. The business of the month was dealt with, and a reading was given °by the president, who afterwards presented the birthday sprays. A donation was sent to the federation street stall held in Thames. The collection for the “parcels for Britain” fund enabled, three parcels to be posted during March and the roving shilling rally was won by Mrs J. Watt. Delegates appointed were Mrs B. Bray (annual meeting, Thames), Mrs V. Hollis (Dominion* council meeting, Wellington), Mrs H. O'lney (bi-annual meeting, Thames). The annual meeting followed, the president, Mrs N. Lithgow, thanking her committee and all members for their co-operation throughout •the year, and the reports of the senior and junior institutes and the financial statement were read and adopted. The election of officers for the year resulted: President, Mrs C. Whittington; secretary, Mrs J. Robinson; treasurer, Mrs A. Campbell; vice-presidents, Mrs G. Metcalfe and Mrs J. Watt; committee, Mesdames J. Benney, R. Rennie, J. Webster, J. Vs alder and A. Robinson. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Lithgow, the retiring president, for the able way in which she had carried out her duties, and on her being proposed as a V.O. Bouquets were presented to the retiring president, the secretary, treasurer and Mrs' T. Turton, V. 0., guest speaker for the day. Activities carried out during the year were very successful, 37 parcels being sent to Britain to the end of February while donations were also sent to the federation, the Sunrise Home for the Blind, leper appeal, typewriter fund, hospital fund, street stall and seamen’s mission. Two group meeting were attended, Waikino winding the Capper Cup on both occasions. Waikino entered the April and October council competitions, exhibiting the champion top in April and gaining second place with a boy’s outfit in October. Junior members visited the aged and lonely in the district on Mother’s Day, to whom they presented white bouquets. Two juniors attended the rally in Wellington. The children’s Christmas visit was cancelled and the junior circle postponed. Mrs Olney was the winne? of the points prize while junior winners were Raewynne Rennie (A group) and Maureen Bray (B group). Afternoon tea being served, the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
