ACADEMY THEATRE

“CANARY MURDER CASE” TO-NIGHT

Last night’s patrons were kept in a state of suspense till the final fadeout in “The Canary Murder Case," the great mystery thriller which will be shown for the last time at the Academy Theatre to-night. It is one of the best pictures of its type thar, has ever been screened in Waihi. William Powell, James Hall, Louise and Jean Arthur give line performances. Screening on the same programme are the U.F.A. production “The Gipsy Princess,” starring Liane Haid, and a new chapter of “The Collegians.” A special matinee will be held to-day at 3 p.m. Two features and a comedy will comprise Wednesday’s big programme. Ralph Ince and Jola Hendez are the stars of “Not for Publication.” The dramatic emphasis of this production, its intensely appealing love theme, its pathos, mystery and surprising disclosures, lend this story an appeal which is universal. Its massive background in the great West and the tremendous nature of the great building project which forms an important part of the story, togther with the splendid cast which enacts the principal roles, adds vitally to its appear. The second feature is “Stolen Pleasures,” starring Helene Chadwick and Dorothy Revier. A good comedy will complete the programme.
