MARTON-LEVIN RAILWAY DEVIATION
(Per United Press Association.) FOXTON, Nov. 19.
A meeting of delegates of local bodies throughout Horowhenua, Manpwatu, arid Rangitikei was held at Sandon this afternoon to discuss further action re linking up the MakuTrunk line between Marten and Levin.
Sir James Wilson .presided. Speeches were made by Messrs, Field and. Newman, M’s.P., urging the .connecting link as a work of national importance, whereas the Palmerston ’1 eviction was not justified. Mr Field severely criticised the General Manager of Railways, and referred to him as an absolute autocrat.
Resolutions were carried reaffirming that the Government should construct the Marton-Levin link as against the Palmerston deviation.
Arrangements were made for a representative deputation to* wait on the Premier and Minister of Public Works, when they inspect the proposed route. . The conference was assured of support from the majority of Palmerston business people, who oppose the Palmerston deviation, and local bodies north and west of Marten.
