WATERSIDERS’ WAGES

The conference of employers of waterside labour and representatives of the Waterside Workers’ Federation discussed the question of an increase in the rates of wages to meet the increased cost of living since the present agreement came into force. As the demands are based on the cost of living as disclosed by the Government Statistician, whose figures are to be challenged by both workers and employers, the conference failed to come to ary conclusion. It is mow discussing methods of carrying out work on the waterfront with a view to increased efficiency. The* shipowners have received a reciuest for increased wages from the Federated Cooks and Stewards and Sear men’s Federation.
