WELLINGTON v. AUCKLAND
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 29,
The cricket match, Wellington v. Auckland, was commenced in perfect weather on a fast wicket. Wellington, batting first, made a poor showing against the slow bowling of S. G. Smith. The only batsmen to make a stand were Dind 34 and Burton 23 (not out). The opening pair, Dind and Baker, carried the game to 43 before the latter was caught in the out-field. After that the wickets fell fast, until Burton appeared with the score at five for 88 after 90 minutes’ play. Burton and Lambert played a good partnership until just before lunch, when Lambert started to hit out and was caught in the long field. His successor failed to see the over out, and the adjuornment was taken with the score at 116 for seven wickets. Scores: WELLINGTON.—First Innings.
