WANGANUI INVENTIONS.

VALUE or THE CAMERA ENHANCED. A NEW HATPIN FOR LADIES.

Two Wanganui residents with an inventive turn of mind have lately registered a couple of patents which, for their simplicity and utility, promise to be extensively used when placed on the market, as they arc shortly to be. One has to do with the camera, the value of which has been enhanced considerably by the new device. As a matter of fact, the process of photography will, it is said, be completely altered and improved “out of sight.” The device is attached to film or box cameras, and by an ingenious arrangement, the receiving spool is attached to the trigger on the shutter. When the picture has been taken, the action of pressing down the trigger releases a small cog wheel on the film spool, with the result that the film is wound off automatically. The advantages are at once apparent to a photographer. There can be no duplication of pictures on one film, nor can a film be missed, A camera thus fitted is much superior to any other, inasmuch as that a complete series of pictures can be taken. For instance, it is easy to take a picture of a 100 yd foot race from beginning to end without shifting the camera or interfering with the spool. Tlie old doubt and uncertainty as to whether the picture has lieen taken on No. 4 or 5, as the case may be, is entirely eliminated, and a series of pictures of any extent can be taken in a few seconds. The device has been submitted to experts, who predict a big demand for it.

The same couple have perfected an improved hatpin, which has been well received. It will shortly lie placed on the market, and ladies will be able to procure a hatpin which is absolutely certain in its .holding power, even in the strongest gale of wind. There are several features about the new holding pin that will be greatly appreciated by womanfolk. Any discomfort by the use of the pin is completely removed, and, moreover, it has no protruding points, so that ladies will never in future have to complain of the disfigurement of a hat by innumerable hatpin holes. Both inventions show the exercise of great care and brain work in the development of the ideas, and the inventors have every reason to be pleased with Uie generous praise bestowed by critics m respect to their products.
