UNIVERSITY SENATE.

(Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, January 26. At the University Senate, Professor Wall moved: That “in M.A and M.Sc. degrees honours be not awarded if the degree is obtained more than six years after matriculation. Professor MacMillan Brown moved additkn by way of an amendment, viz., that the Chancellor have discretion in the case of illness to extend the period fer one rear.

The amendment was lost and the motion earned by 11 votes to 8 and referred to the Statutes Committee. It was resolved that the matter of concessions to entrance scholars and the question of awarding distinction or some foim of honours at the B.A. stage be referred to the principals of secondary schools, and to Professional Boards for report to the Board of Studies and the Senate, and that Professor Tibbs be invited to draw np a memorandum on tie subject to be circulated to those bodies.
