SOLDIER RUNS AMOK.
MURDEROUS CAFE SCENE,
A soldier of the African Battalion named Says, entering a" cafe at Roanne, fired four revolver shots at a man named Dubost, killing him, and then fired five more shots at the customers in the cafe.
He then fled, and took refuge in the house of a woman, where the gendarmes attempted to arrest him, but he again succeeded in escaping, and, after firing more shots, reached the railway station at Roanne.
The police again endeavoured to arrest the man, who crossed the railway lines and reached open country after firing other“shots at the gendarmes. The murder of Dubost is attributed to jealousy, and it is stated that Says had escaped from a military prison, where he was serving a sentence of seven years’ hard labour.
